Three young pupils tragically lost their lives on July 10, 2025, after a pit latrine collapsed at Queen of Angels Primary School in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County.

The victims, all girls aged below 10 and enrolled in Grade One and Two, were using the facility when the floor gave way, trapping them beneath the debris.
Rescue teams from the National Youth Service, Uasin Gishu Emergency Fire Department, and local volunteers managed to pull out several injured pupils, but three succumbed while being rushed to Turbo Sub-County Hospital.
The collapse is believed to have been triggered by heavy rains that weakened the structure’s foundation.
The school, which is Catholic-sponsored, has been temporarily closed, and authorities have launched investigations to determine the exact cause of the incident.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has ordered structural assessments of sanitation facilities in schools across the county to prevent future tragedies.
