An Ebola outbreak in the DR Congo, the deadliest in its history, has spread to a seventh province, bordering the Central African Republic and Congo-Brazzaville, the governor of South-Ubangi province said on Friday.
Ebola, which spreads through contact with bodily fluids and causes haemorrhagic fever, has killed more than 15,000 people across Africa over the past 50 years. The deadliest outbreak in the DRC killed nearly 2,300 people out of 3,500 recorded cases.
Updated numbers issued by the UN health agency showed there have been 1,759 confirmed cases in DR Congo since the outbreak was declared in mid-May, including 600 confirmed deaths.

The WHO and the African Union’s public health agency launched a $518-million joint plan on Friday to tackle the Ebola outbreak causing alarm in the Democratic Republic of Congo and its neighbours.
