Raila Odinga on why he will not attend Ruto’s inauguration

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga has said he will not be attending the presidential debate slated for Tuesday. Professor Makau Mutua, the spokesperson of Raila Odinga presidential campaign secretariat broke the news claiming Odinga chose to rather hold a separate town hall meeting as he did not want to share a podium with deputy president William Ruto.

In a statement issued on Monday, Odinga acknowledged that Ruto had personally invited him to the inauguration ceremony but said he would not honor the invite since he is out of the country and that he still holds “serious concerns” about the August 9th elections in which Ruto was declared the winner.

“This evening, I received a letter and a telephone call from H.E Dr. William Ruto inviting me to his inauguration set for tomorrow, September 13, 2022. I regret however that I will not be available for the inauguration because I am out of the country and I also have other serious concerns,” reads the statement.

“For these reasons, the outcome of the election remains indeterminate,” said Odinga, who emerged second in the election.

The former prime minister went on to state that once he returns to the country he will announce his next move.
