Kenya’s Attorney General Fired moments after claiming President doesn’t consult him

Despite being the State’s chief adviser, Attorney General Justin Muturi has refuted claims by a local daily newspaper that President William Ruto does not consult him.

Muturi was quoted saying that the president makes independent decisions without seeking his legal advice. The Daily claimed that the AG told them that his input was not being sought on key legal issues.

‘’The deployment of the military to the streets was done without the advice of the Attorney General. I also can advise the police to go and shoot innocent kids in the streets’’ Muturi told The Standard on the phone.

But shortly afterward, Muturi issued a statement terming the report attributed to him as false.

“As a former lawmaker and speaker of the National Assembly, I uphold the highest standards of integrity and transparency. The misquotations in the article are misleading to the Kenyan public and undermine these principles.” He said

Muturi said the media must be responsible and accurate in their reporting at all times. He threatened to pursue legal channels to have the daily make a correct public statement on the matter.

“It is imperative that the media maintain accuracy and responsibility in their reporting to ensure that the truth is upheld.”

On Thursday afternoon, The AG was not spared when President William Ruto dismissed the entire cabinet.

’Upon reflection, listening keenly to what the people of Kenya have said and after a holistic appraisal of the performance of my Cabinet and its achievements and challenges, I have, in line with the powers given to me by Article 152(1) and 152(5)(b) of the Constitution and Section 12 of the Office of the Attorney-General Act, decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney-General from the Cabinet of the Republic of Kenya’’ Announced the President.
