Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan has dismissed Foreign Affairs Minister January Makamba and ICT Minister Nape Nnauye in a significant cabinet reshuffle announced on Sunday evening.
Ambassador Mahmoud Kombo, previously Tanzania’s envoy to Italy, will replace Makamba as the Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Minister and has also been nominated as a Member of Parliament. Jerry Silaa, formerly the Minister of Lands, Housing, and Human Settlements, has been appointed the new ICT Minister, with John Ndejembi taking over Silaa’s former role. Ndejembi was the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, overseeing Labour, Youth, Employment, and Persons with Disabilities.
President Samia also appointed Cosato Chumi as the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, replacing Ambassador Nassor Mbarouk, who will be reassigned. Ridhiwani Kikwete has been named Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, taking over from his role as Deputy Minister of State in the President’s Office for Public Service Management and Good Governance. Clement Sangu will now serve as the Deputy Minister in that office.
Further changes include reassignments and new appointments for permanent secretaries and district commissioners, reflecting President Samia’s ongoing efforts to streamline and strengthen her administration.
