The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has resolved over 12,000 complaints against police officers in the last six years.
According to the end-of-term report, IPOA received and processed 20,112 complaints from the public during this period, and successfully managed to resolve 12,732.
They have however indicated that the remaining complaints are at various stages of investigation.
The Authority conducted 4,865 investigations, which led to the recommendation of 773 files to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for further action.
“Notably, 30 officers were convicted for various offenses,” the report released Wednesday by the IPOA board to key partners and stakeholders stated
This is a significant achievement, reflecting IPOA’s efforts to address issues such as police misconduct, abuse of power, and other violations.
The majority of these complaints came from the public, but there were also cases from police officers themselves.
