Envoys from the European Union in Tanzania have condemned the brutal murder of Chadema Party official on Friday
In a joint statement, the envoys said they are deeply concerned with the increasing cases of abduction, disappearances, and the death of political leaders in Tanzania.
‘’We are deeply concerned with recent reports of acts of violence, disappearances, and deaths of political and human rights activists and calls for a thorough inquiry into these events.’’ Reads the statement
The Diplomats urged the government of Tanzania to ensure the protection of the opposition as promised by President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s ‘’4R’’ plan and for authorities to act as guardians of the fundamental rights of the people including their freedom of expression.
‘’We note with great concern that these recent developments threaten democratic values and the rights of Tanzania citizens in a country which is respected globally for peace and stability and we join the call to safeguard the peace and stability of the country’’ Added the Envoys.
Their call comes moments after the US government also condemned the unwarranted death of Mr Ali Kibao.
Ali Kibao was on Friday 6th September violently Pulled out of a moving bus in Dar es Salaam, abducted tortured, and later killed in cold blood before his face was doused by acid.
His lifeless body was found abandoned at the roadside in the Ununio waterfront district of Dar es Salaam on Saturday morning
Kibao was later buried on Monday afternoon according to Muslim custom. His death has elicited a national public outcry, with opposition squarely laying blame on the authority. They are calling for speedy investigations of the murder of Kibao and ensure perpetrators are arrested and charged.
