Heche placed under house arrest as Lissu’s home sealed off ahead of his court appearance

Despite being in custody awaiting mention of his case today, heavily armed Tanzania police officers have surrounded Chadema Chairman Tundu Lissu’s Home in Tegeta, Dar es Salaam.

According to his lawyer, Peter Kabatala, the officers wanted to inspect Lissu’s house.

“I have been informed by Antipas Tundu Lissu Mughwai at his home in Tegeta, Dar es Salaam, that armed Police have arrived in the area since the morning of this 28th April 2025 and knocked on the gate to open it; to no avail. It is unclear what legal and logical need they have, and why they have not made formal contact with us, Lissu’s lawyers. We will provide more Information.” Said Kabatala.

Reports from his deputy, John Heche, indicate that Lissu’s Compound was manned from midnight.

Meanwhile, Chadema Vice Chairperson John Heche is currently under house arrest after military artillery vehicles with armed police officers sealed off his compound.

”I have been surrounded by police officers since 4 am this morning. Officers with four vehicles are at my gate’’, tweeted Heche.

On Sunday, 27th April 2025, the firebrand politician rallied party members and supporters to come in their numbers to court (Today) during Lissu’s court appearance on Monday, 28th April 2025. Heche also demanded that Lissu’s case be mentioned in an open court rather than virtually.

Tundu Lissu’s case failed to take off last week after he declined to be heard virtually. He was arrested nearly a month ago and has been charged with treason, incitement, and dissemination of falsehood.
