Three Ugandan Activists Arrested After Peaceful Protest in Kampala

Three Ugandan activists from the Sisterhood Chain group were arrested on Friday June 20th, after holding a peaceful protest on Sir Apollo Kaggwa Road in Kampala. The protest was aimed at demanding the arrest of Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Muhoozi Kainerugaba over his controversial tweets and calling for the release of all political prisoners in Uganda.

The activists, Praise Aloikin , Claire Namara and Norah Kobusingye, were arrested by police and are currently being held at Wandegeya Police Station.

They were part of a demonstration against what they describe as online injustice and selective enforcement of the law. The group argues that while many opposition supporters have been arrested for expressing their views on social media, Gen Muhoozi has continued to make controversial statements without any legal action taken against him.

Following their arrest, an initial court hearing took place under unclear circumstances, prompting further protest from fellow activists and lawyers. After continued pressure, the case was re-heard and the court has now scheduled a bail ruling for tomorrow at 10:00 am.

The Sisterhood Chain is a collective of young women in Uganda using peaceful protests to push for political accountability and justice.
