Activist and blogger Ndiang’ui Kinyagia, who had been missing since June 21, has been found alive and is reportedly in good health.

According to his family lawyer, Wahome Thuku, Kinyagia made contact with a relative on Tuesday evening from an undisclosed location, citing fears for his safety as the reason for going into hiding.
Kinyagia, known for his digital activism and association with the Gen Z protest movement, had been sought by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over unspecified allegations.
The DCI linked Ndiang’ui to a provocative post that went viral on X (formerly Twitter), inciting the June 25 Gen Z protests.
Ndiang’ui disappeared on June 21, 2025, after what was alleged to be a raid by DCI officers at his home in Kinoo. Witnesses reported that at least ten vehicles, believed to be DCI, arrived at his home, broke down the door without a search warrant, and confiscated electronic devices such as phones, computers, and passports.
The image featured the national emblem and a schedule of political activities, including a march to the State House and the swearing-in of a “transitional council”.
However, the DCI refused to detain him and instead asked him to surrender to assist in the investigation.
His disappearance sparked public outcry and legal action, including a habeas corpus application filed by the Law Society of Kenya.
The High Court had ordered top police officials to account for his whereabouts, underscoring growing concerns over enforced disappearances linked to civic dissent.
He has now expressed willingness to appear in court, provided his safety is guaranteed. His legal team has advised him to present himself before the High Court at Milimani, and the Law Society of Kenya has been notified to ensure legal oversight
