Tanzania’s Electoral Commission revokes Luhaga Mpina’s presidential candidacy

ACT Wazalendo Presidential candidate Luhaga Joelson Mpina, has faced another hurdle after the Electoral Commission removed his name from the list of presidential candidates.

The Commission’s decision was based on an objection filed by Attorney General Hamza Said Johari against Mpina, and two other political parties; AAFP and NRA

Mpina has been removed from the list of candidates just four days after winning a case at the High Court in Dodoma when he was challenging the Commission’s previous decision to prevent him from returning his nomination form to contest for the presidency.

According to a statement by ACT Wazalendo, the Attorney General’s objection claimed that Mpina was not qualified to be a Presidential Candidate following an earlier decision by the Registrar of Political Parties.

However, ACT Wazalendo has blamed Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) for the objections raised against its candidate Mpina, terming the objections as unfounded and baseless.

ACT Wazalendo has since file an appeal in the court challenging the objection by Attorney General and other political parties. They have vowed to submit an official objection to INEC challenging president Samia nomination as presidential candidate.
