The National Unity Platform (NUP) leader, Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, has confirmed his bid for Uganda’s presidency in the 2026 general elections after his party picked nomination forms from the Electoral Commission in Kampala.

Bobi Wine will be making his second attempt at the presidency, five years after his 2021 challenge to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
On Monday, Bobi Wine was represented at the Electoral Commission headquarters by the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi, alongside NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya and other senior party officials.
“We are here on behalf of our Principal, Bobi Wine, to officially pick the nomination forms. This marks the beginning of a new chapter as we prepare for 2026,” said Ssenyonyi after receiving the documents.
Rubongoya emphasized that the party is determined to ensure that Ugandans have a fair and transparent election.
“This is not just about Bobi Wine. It is about the struggle of Ugandans for freedom, fairness, and justice,” he stated.
The issuance of nomination forms marks the first step in the presidential election process. After the September 24 deadline, the EC will verify the submitted forms and signatures before setting official nomination dates.
The development sets the stage for what is widely expected to be a rematch between Bobi Wine and President Museveni, who has ruled Uganda since 1986 and is likely to seek re-election on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.
