CCM issues direct nomination to Jakaya Kikwete’s wife and son to vie for MP seats

Tanzania’s Ruling Party, CCM, has issued a direct nomination to Riwedhani Kikwete to contest for the Chalinze parliamentary seat in the upcoming general election scheduled for October 2025.

Ridhawini is the son of former Tanzanian president Jakaya Kikwete. According to CCM’s Secretary for Ideology, Publicity and Training, Mr Amos Makala, Ridhiwani Kikwete was the ”sole candidate who took the nomination form’’ for Chalinze Constituency.

He’s currently the Deputy Minister of Lands and Human Settlement Development in Tanzania and also the sitting Member of Parliament for Chalinze Constituency. His mother, the former First Lady Mama Salma Kikwete, is also the MP of Mchinga Constituency in Lindi Region. Mama Salma has also been issued a direct nomination.

Also receiving a direct nomination is Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy Dr Dotto Biketo. Dr Biteko will be the sole CCM candidate in the Bukombe constituency.

Tanzania will hold its general election on 29th October 2025.

In this year’s election, President Samia Suluhu Hassan will fly the CCM flag and will be deputized by CCM Secretary General Emmanuel Nchimbi, who will be her Running Mate. The two were also given a direct nomination.

However, several members perceived to be President Samia’s critics have been dropped from the nomination list. Among them are Kisesa MP Luhaga Mpina and Arusha Urban MP Mrisho Gamba.
