Chadema’s Deputy Secretary General Benson Kigaila has now revealed that several leaders from the party who were arrested by the police force are currently nursing serious injuries.
Kigaila said the leaders were badly brutalized by the Tanzanian police force while in custody.
According to Kigaila, those severely brutalized are the party’s secretary General John Mnyika, and Chadema’s Nyasa Region chairman Joseph Mbilinyia. Also affected by police cruelty is the Party’s vice Chairman Tundu Lissu who was roughed up and throned into the police car
As a result, of Monday’s fiasco by police, Mr. Kigaila has called on Chadema members and other party well-wishers to stand firm against the dictatorship, impunity, and blatant disregard of law.
In a press conference On Tuesday afternoon, Mr. Kigaila, flanked by the party’s Director of Protocols and Communications John Mrema, said they will continue fighting for the rights of citizens.
Regarding their next course of action after a botched youth meeting in Mbeya Town, the party’s leaders would meet internally on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, to chat about the way forward
“They will undergo medical examinations to assess their well-being after the events in Mbeya. They are expected to hold a press conference on Thursday, August 15, 2024, to explain what transpired and outline the party’s path forward.” He said
