Dancehall ARTIST Vybz Kartel Freed From Prison

The Jamaican dancehall artist, Vybz Kartel, has been freed from prison. This comes after his murder conviction was overturned by the Jamaican Court of Appeal on July 31, 2024.

According to the Court of Appeal, led by Justice Marva McDonald, the evidence used to convict Vybz Cartel was compromised, leading to his release after 13 years behind bars.

The 48-year-old artist, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, was accused alongside his other two co-accused, Kahira Jones and Andre St. John, of the killing of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams, whose body was never found.

In a unanimous ruling by the court on July 31, 2024, Kartel and his co-accused will not face a new trial.

“We conclude that the interest of justice does not require a new trial to be ordered for the appellants.” Justice Marva McDonald ruled as per Fox 5 New York.

The decision to free him was based on issues with the evidence used in his trial, including concerns about the integrity of digital evidence.

This ruling has been a significant moment for his fans and supporters, who have long believed in his innocence.
