In response to widespread public outcry, Dodoma’s Regional Police Commander Theopista Mallya has been reassigned to the Police Headquarters in Dodoma. The transfer comes shortly after her controversial comments regarding a gang rape case, where she referred to the victim as a “sex worker.” These remarks sparked outrage across social media.
Inspector General of Police Camillus Wambura announced the decision, stating that the move is part of routine operational changes within the police force. Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) George Katabazi has now taken over as the new Dodoma Regional Police Commander.
The Tanzanian Police Force, through its spokesperson David Misime, clarified that Mallya’s comments do not reflect the official stance of the police. An apology was issued to those offended by her remarks, emphasizing the police force’s commitment to ensuring justice and fair treatment for all victims.
