Douglas Kanja Kirocho has officially been sworn in as the 5th Inspector General of the National Police Service (NPS) in Kenya.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Thursday, September 19, 2024, and was presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome.

Kanja’s appointment follows his approval by both the National Assembly and the Senate, and he will serve a four-year term.
President William Ruto nominated him as the National Police Service Inspector General immediately after Japheth Koome resigned from office following the pressure initiated by the anti-government protest on July 12, 2024.
Kanja had a distinguished career in law enforcement spanning nearly four decades, having started his journey in 1985.
Before his appointment he served as the commandant of the General Service Unit (GSU) for a period of 5 years and was the Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service.
