Elon Musk’s Starlink has officially launched its new Starlink Mini package in Kenya, offering more affordable and portable internet solutions. The announcement, made on Thursday, revealed that the Starlink Mini package will provide high-speed internet for as low as Ksh 1,300 per month. This new plan aims to make internet access more accessible for Kenyans.
The Starlink Mini kit, priced at Ksh 27,000, is designed for portability and ease of use, covering up to 112 square meters. It supports up to 128 devices, making it ideal for basic internet applications, whether at home or on the move. The kit includes an integrated Wi-Fi router, further reducing setup costs.
Since it entered Kenya in July 2023, Starlink has been gaining traction, offering various packages to suit different needs. Its introduction of a 50 GB data plan at KSh 1,300 per month has been especially popular. However, the hardware cost has been a challenge for many potential customers. To address this, Starlink introduced a rental option, allowing users to pay a one-time activation fee of KSh 2,700 and a monthly rental fee of KSh 1,950 for the hardware.
Starlink’s entry into the Kenyan market has created stiff competition with local providers like Safaricom.
President William Ruto, during his recent visit to the U.S., supported Starlink’s operations in Kenya, stating that the competition will drive improved services across the industry.
