‘’English is not our priority’’, Tanzanian MP warns Kenyans over online troll

Geita MP Joseph Musukuma has warned Kenyans from meddling in Tanzania’s affairs. The MP, while addressing the question of peace and security on the floor of the Tanzanian parliament on Monday, May 26th, 2026, said the influx of Kenyan activists in Tanzania perturbed him. He claims the activists were ‘’exporting bad manners’’ in Dar es Salaam and calls on national security agencies to pounce on them decisively.

‘’We don’t want trouble in Tanzania. As Tanzanians, there is nothing to learn from Kenya, not even one thing. We are ahead of them politically, intellectually, and in every other way. Speaking English is not a priority for us”, said Musukuma amidst cheers from his parliamentary colleagues.

The MP further warns Kenyans for cyberbullying President Samia Suluhu Hassan and other Tanzanian institutions.

‘’As East Africans, we don’t meddle in each other’s affairs. However, I have observed how some Kenyans have been trolling President Samia Suluhu and our institutions. As Tanzania MPs, we will not remain silent while our president is insulted by our neighbors’’ he added.

The MPs have also commended the government of Tanzania for blocking and eventually deporting some East African activists who had flocked to Dar es Salaam to follow Chadema Chairman Tundu Lissu’s treason trial charges.

Among those who were chased from Tanzania are People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, former Kenya Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, and activists Boniface Mwangi and Uganda Agather Atuhaire.

Tanzanians’ move to deport them sparked outrage and outcry from a section of Kenyans, which prompted online banter and trolling between some Kenyans and Tanzanians, which in turn resulted in cyberbullying of President Samia Suluhu Hassan from Kenyan online users.
