After the Office of the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) summoned former Tanzanian Ambassador to Cuba, Humphrey Polepole, to provide details and evidence of allegations he raised online, Polepole has stated that he will not honor the summons due to safety concerns. Instead, he wants the police to interrogate him via a Zoom link or another online platform.
Polepole is being summoned after revealing that the CCM has been rigging elections in Tanzania, as well as engaging in sham nominations that have marred the party. As a former CCM national cadre, Polepole has also claimed in his weekly online briefs that former President John Pombe Magufuli did not die a natural death.
Additionally, he alleges that Chadema Chairman Tundu Lissu is facing political persecution rather than a judicial process, suggesting that the ruling party fears defeat in a free and fair election.
“I am concerned about my safety,” Polepole said. “There are people who want me to go to the police station, where I might be arrested and later disappear, with the police claiming no responsibility.”
He further expressed frustration about being abandoned in Cuba with his family, stating, “They took me to Cuba, but don’t want to fly me back home. I’ve tried reaching out to our Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, but he’s unreachable.”
The former diplomat has also made serious allegations against President Samia Suluhu’s son, claiming that he heads an abduction squad involved in enforced disappearances in Tanzania.
Polepole resigned from the embassy in Cuba on July 13, 2025, citing his inability to continue serving in a leadership that disregards constitutional principles, rights, ethics, dignity, and accountability to citizens. Since then, he has raised various allegations against the government and its institutions.
His ambassadorial status was revoked by President Samia Suluhu, and he has been expelled from the CCM party
