Former Chadema chairman Freeman Mbowe has today, Thursday 17th 2025, made a rare public appearance at the launch of Tanzania’s Vision 2025–2050 held at the Jakaya Kikwete Convention Centre in Dodoma.
Mbowe, who lost his chairmanship position to Tundu Lissu in the January 2025 party elections, has kept a low profile since then.
He is reportedly focusing on his private business and family matters.
Mr Mbowe was among other senior government officials who attended the launch of Tanzania’s national vision 2025-2050. The launch, which was presided over by President Samia Suluhu, aims to make Tanzania reach the status of an upper-middle-income economy.
This is the third high-profile public appearance by Mbowe since being defeated by Lissu. However, his silence has raised more questions than answers, especially when his party chairman, Mr Tundu Lissu, was arrested over allegations of reason and incitement. He has never appeared in Lissu’s court proceedings nor visited him in prison.
At the event, Mbowe shook hands with President Samia Suluhu Hassan and later had a photo session with the head of state.
