Fuel prices decrease in Tanzania as prices remain high in Kenya

More relief for Tanzanians as the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) has announced a drop in the price of petrol and diesel in the country, starting December 06, 2023.

According to a statement released by EWURA on 6th December 2023, the decrease in fuel prices comes as a result of the drop in the price of the product in the market and the reduction in the cost of importing oil through the ports of Dar es Salaam and Tanga.

EWURA has said that for the month of December 2023, oil prices in the world market have decreased by an average of 0.8 percent for gasoline and 9.11 percent for diesel.

In addition,in December 2023, the price of crude oil decreased in the world market by an average of 8.7 percent, and the cost of importing oil by an average of 27 percent for gasoline and 23 percent for diesel.

Now Petrol in Dar es Salaam will retail at Sh3,158 and diesel at Sh3,226 per liter, retail price, from Sh 3,274 and Sh3,3,74 previously.

EWURA has said that Kerosene prices will remain as it was last month at Sh 3,423 per liter for the retail buyer.

According to this announcement, the retail price of petrol has decreased by Shs 116 and diesel by Shs 148, while the price of fuel will remain unchanged.

In the Mtwara region, consumers will buy petrol at Sh 3,231 per liter and diesel at Sh 3,546 per liter, while kerosene will cost Sh 3,495 per liter.

In Tanga, one liter of petrol will cost Sh3,204 while diesel will cost Sh 3,377 from Sh 3,274 and Sh 3,510 last month, respectively. Kerosene will be purchased at Sh 3,469 per liter.

In Kenya, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) declared on November 14, 2023, that super fuel prices in the country had not changed significantly, while kerosene and diesel prices had somewhat decreased.
The last six months have seen fluctuations in worldwide petroleum prices, with a sharp decline in October, according to monthly publications on the subject from EPRA. Prices fell to $804 per metric tonne in October, the lowest level since May 2023. However, Kenya hasn’t yet seen any decline in fuel prices.
The prices were adjusted to petrol at Sh217.4 per liter, diesel at Sh203.5, and kerosene at Sh203.1 per litre in Nairobi.
