Former Deputy President of Kenya Rigathi Gachagua has revealed that Juja MP George Koimburi was tortured by his captors.
Speaking after visiting the MP in Karen Hospital in Nairobi on Monday, May 26, Gachagua also detailed that the MP could not speak and was only able to write down what had happened to him.
As narrated by the former DP, the MP inhaled a chemical during his capture, hence his inability to speak.
“Some chemical was administered through inhalation, and the doctors have told us that preliminary investigations confirm that the chemical has interfered with his vocal cords. The doctors have assured us that they are doing everything within their power to make sure that he is out of danger.”
The former DP added that various samples had been taken for analysis as they seek to establish what transpired with the MP.
“They have taken blood and urine samples to different laboratories so that they can establish what could have happened in matters of poisoning,” the former DP added.
Meanwhile, he expressed that the government was intimidating his allies. He detailed that the recent abduction of the Juja MP had exposed some of the MPs supporting him to security risks.
Gachagua lamented that the bodyguards of his allies had been withdrawn, adding that they would be taking additional precautionary measures to protect themselves.
However, he noted that the President would be personally held responsible if anything happened to his allies.
Koimburi was abducted by unknown men on Sunday. He was later found dumped in a coffee plantation on Monday morning.
However, the National Police Service (NPS) has distanced itself from Koimburi’s alleged abduction. They stated that the MP had been under active investigation for alleged involvement in a land fraud case.
The agency noted that the lawmaker was aware of the police’s intention to arrest him, prompting him to go into hiding.
