Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni’s son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has deleted a series of threatening posts he directed at supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and opposition leader Robert Kyangulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine.

In the tweets, posted on Monday night, Muhoozi claimed that a number of NUP supporters had been killed during the Uganda general elections, adding that he would increase the number.

He said security forces would “kill on sight all NUP ‘foot soldiers’” and declared that the party would be “extinguished from our land”.

The posts, which sparked alarm online, disappeared hours later. Ugandan authorities have not issued an official response.

The country’s political tension surged after a heated online exchange between Muhoozi and opposition Wine, following the January 15 presidential election.

Museveni, who has been in power for four decades, was declared the winner with 72 per cent of the votes, while Wine received 25 per cent.

Wine rejected the results, alleging ballot stuffing and widespread rigging and went into hiding after security forces reportedly attempted to abduct him from his home in Magere.

He said police and military raided his residence, cut power, disabled CCTV cameras and placed family members under house arrest.

Muhoozi resurfaced on X, posting a series of threatening messages targeting Wine and NUP.

He claimed that 22 NUP supporters had already been killed and added, “I’m praying the 23rd is Kabobi,” a reference to Wine.

Muhoozi also issued a 48-hour ultimatum for Wine to surrender to police, warning that failure to comply would result in him being treated as an outlaw.

He described the re-election outcome as foretold, calling himself a “prophet,” and said NUP would be “removed and extinguished from our land like a bad dream”.

Wine claimed his statements were independent, exonerating his father, Museveni, from responsibility.

Wine responded, rejecting Muhoozi’s claims and asserting that more than 100 of his supporters had been killed during the election period.

He accused soldiers stationed at his home of harassment, blocking access, replacing padlocks with chains and leaving his family without food.

Bobi Wine said he would emerge from hiding at a time of his choosing, dismissing Muhoozi’s threats as evidence of panic.

The situation remains fluid as Wine remains in hiding, Muhoozi’s posts, though since deleted, continue to circulate online.
