Kenya has officially confirmed its readiness to co-host the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
The tournament, christened PAMOJA CHAN24, will kick off on August 2, 2025, in Dar es Salaam, with the final set for August 30 at Kasarani Stadium, Nairobi.
Awarded the rights in December 2023, CHAN 2024 will serve as a dry run for AFCON 2027, which the three East African countries will also co-host as PAMOJA AFCON27. The tournament is a celebration of regional unity through sport.
In Kenya, the major competition venues — Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani and Nyayo National Stadium — have been fully upgraded. Training facilities like Ulinzi Complex, Police Sacco Stadium, and Utalii Grounds are also match-ready. All have been certified by CAF and handed over to the Local Organizing Committee (LOC).
The LOC, chaired by Nicolas Musonye and led by CEO Mike Rabar, has established 13 functional sub-committees responsible for security, fan services, medical and doping control, infrastructure, finance, public signage, and more. Coordination across Uganda and Tanzania is ensured via the Pamoja Council of Sports Ministers and Regional Technical Committee.
“We’ve delivered top-level infrastructure and operational systems in line with CAF standards,” said LOC CEO Mike Rabar. “Our goal is to provide an exceptional CHAN experience and build confidence ahead of AFCON 2027.”
“This tournament is not just about football. It’s a test of our readiness, coordination, and unity. Its success will directly determine our ability to host AFCON 2027,” said LOC Chair Nicolas Musonye.
Tickets are now available at https://chan.mookh.com. Musonye emphasized that no tickets will be sold at the stadiums on match days, and all seats will be digitally pre-assigned. CAF’s security team will advise on final distribution mechanisms.“Gates will open at 9 a.m. for all 3 p.m. matches to ensure smooth flow and security,” he added.
For those unable to attend in person, KBC will air all matches live via SuperSport. Public viewing will also be available at Uhuru Park, which will host an official screening zone.
CAF-approved hotels for teams and officials include Pullman, Hyatt Regency, Kempinski, and Mövenpick, all within proximity to venues. A protocol desk will operate at JKIA to handle delegations’ arrivals.
The event is budgeted at KSh 1.4 billion, covering 30 days. More financial details will be released in due course, Rabar confirmed.
The Harambee Stars are in camp under a newly appointed technical bench. President William Ruto and the Sports CS have visited the team to offer support.
With infrastructure, logistics, and regional cooperation in place, Kenya is set to deliver a historic and memorable CHAN 2024 tournament.
Harambee Stars will kick off their CHAN 2024 campaign with a highly anticipated clash against DR Congo on Sunday, August 3, at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
