Kenyan Author arrested for publishing a Book About President Ruto’s Daughter

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers on Monday, June 2, arrested a Kenyan author, Webster Ochora Elijah, for publishing a book about President William Ruto’s daughter, Charlene Ruto.

The author is being accused of identity theft under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act over the book titled; Beyond the Name: Charlene Ruto and the Youth Uprising.

According to detectives, Webster Ochora used the identity of Charlene in the book without her consent.

The DCI has also written to the publisher of the book to determine the identities of those involved in the financing of the publication and the book’s Editors.

Ochora is detained at the Muthaiga Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in court on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

The officers have also seized the author’s laptop for forensic analysis as part of the investigation to seek digital evidence.

However, his lawyers have condemned his detention, describing it as unlawful.

Lawyer Kennedy Mongare noted that the author has written a number of books, including works on former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and U.S. President Donald Trump.
