Kenyan MP Claims 2025/2026 National Budget Trivializes Ordinary Citizens’ Welfare

Kitui Central MP Makali Mulu has sharply criticized the proposed 2025/2026 national budget, arguing that it favors the Executive’s political ambitions at the expense of public welfare.

Kenyan MP Claims 2025/2026 National Budget Trivializes Ordinary Citizens’ Welfare

“In any budget you will have the Executive pushing agendas to implement their manifesto and therefore moving more to the political side and getting a re-election,” he said.

While speaking at Citizen TV on Wednesday, he highlighted major cuts to crucial sectors such as education, health, and social welfare, including defunding the National Fund for the Disabled and slashing allocations to the Teachers Service Commission.

“Looking at the critical issues affecting the citizens, how much money has gone to the education sector? The money that touches the mwananchi alone is not much,” he added.

Meanwhile, he pointed out, allocations for State House operations and a controversial social media monitoring program have increased significantly.

“In any budget you will have the Executive pushing agendas to implement their manifesto and therefore moving more to the political side and getting a re-election. From my analysis, I think this budget is more of an Executive budget. Most of the programs will be supporting the government to get re-elected,” he said

The MP contends that these priorities are out of touch with ordinary Kenyans’ needs, calling for a shift toward empowering the private sector and expanding essential services.
