Kenyans will have the unique opportunity to explore the nation’s game parks and wildlife reserves for free on Saturday, September 28, 2024. This offer, announced by Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, is part of the ongoing celebrations for UN World Tourism Week, which aims to recognize the value of tourism in economic growth and sustainable development.
The event, which concludes on September 27 in Kisumu, marks the 44th edition of World Tourism Day, an annual celebration started by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in 1980. This year’s theme highlights the role of tourism in job creation and preserving wildlife.
Free access applies to all Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS)-managed parks and facilities, including popular spots like Nairobi National Park, Nairobi Animal Orphanage, Nairobi Safari Walk, and Kisumu Impala Sanctuary. Kenyans are encouraged to visit and enjoy the country’s rich biodiversity while adhering to park guidelines such as staying on designated roads, avoiding littering, and respecting wildlife.
KWS will ensure security in collaboration with national police, and visitors must present a valid Kenyan ID or passport to gain entry. However, the free offer will not include activities like camping and guided tours.
