NAIROBI, Kenya — Liberty Kenya has officially joined the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, marking a significant step in strengthening the integration of responsible business practices across its operations.
This milestone was formalized during a certificate handover ceremony held at the Liberty Head Office, underscoring Liberty Kenya’s commitment to aligning its strategies and operations with the Ten Principles of the initiative in the areas of human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption.
By joining the initiative, Liberty Kenya commits to embedding these universal principles into its business culture, governance, and decision-making processes, and to advancing transparency and accountability through ongoing reporting and engagement.
“At Liberty, we exist to make our customers’ financial freedom possible, but we recognize that true freedom relies on a sustainable and ethical society. Joining the UN Global Compact represents a deliberate pivot in our strategy. We are moving beyond the traditional view of CSR as merely ‘giving back’ to a more robust approach focused on ‘acting right’ across every level of our business,” said, Kieran Godden, Liberty Kenya Group CEO.
As part of this new strategic direction, the firm will focus its efforts on four key pillars designed to embed sustainability into the core of the business such, strengthening frameworks to ensure unimpeachable integrity across all operations, adopting rigorous standards to measure and disclose non-financial impact transparently and Leveraging collaborations to address systemic challenges that no single organization can solve alone and Investing in training to ensure that staff and agents are equipped to act as champions of ethical business.
Global Compact Network Kenya, the country network of the United Nations Global Compact and host of the Secretariat of the Code of Ethics for Business in Kenya, welcomed Liberty Kenya’s participation.

As a participant of the United Nations Global Compact, Liberty Kenya will submit an annual Communication on Progress, a public disclosure outlining its efforts to implement the Ten Principles and contribute to broader societal goals. This commitment places Liberty among a growing group of Kenyan companies strengthening trust, accountability, and long-term value creation through responsible business leadership.
