Chadema Chairman Tundu Lissu has castigated High Court Judge Hamidu Mwanga for open bias in his rulings, orders, and judgments. Lissu, in a hard-hitting letter while in police custody, noted that Hamidu’s rulings are always compromised to appease the CCM top brass.
”Judge Hamidu Mwanga is President Samia Suluhu’s judge; with that, he’s a CCM judge, which means he works for CCM. He was in the Zanzibar Election Commission (ZEC) led by Jecha Salimu Jecha, which nullified the Zanzibar election in 2015. How do you expect such a judge to love CHADEMA with the slogan No reforms, no election?’’ Said Lissu
Lissu says the ruling to suspend all Chadema activities has vindicated his suspicion over Judge Hamudu’s allegiance to CCM.
‘’This ruling confirms my suspicion that most of our judges and magistrates are agents of CCM,, and they are making determinations to impress CCM and the person responsible for promoting theming them to appeal courts,’’ added Lissu Lissu emphasized the need for a judiciary that is independent and impartial, free from political influence. He called on the public to remain vigilant and advocate for true justice and democratic reforms in the face of such rulings.
The Tanzanian politician, who also doubles as the vice chair of the Global Democratic Union’s Africa chapter, has urged Chadema members and his supporters to stay put and continue exerting pressure on all available platforms, especially online spaces.
‘’Regarding suspending party activities, let it be known that members are the party, not the building. Even though the building is important, members are the party, and members should escalate the struggles in all available spaces, especially social media. Appealed Lissu.
Tundu Lissu encouraged supporters to keep the fighting spirit alive by reminding them of the struggle African National Congress (ANC) leaders in South Africa went through after the National Party regime banned ANC for over 30 years. During that apartheid regime, several ANC members, such as Nelson Mandela, were arrested and detained without trial. Others, such as Thabo Mbeki and Oliver Tambo, among others, went into exile.
With all such forms of intimidation, blackmail, frustration, and political persecution, Lissu says ANC members and leaders never ran away from the struggle, and they eventually defeated the apartheid administration.
‘’Judge Hamidi Mwanga will deter us from our calls for reforms or will disintegrate Chadema.’’
Lissu is currently in custody as he faces treason and publication of false information charges.
