Miss Universe Kenya 2021 pageant has officially launched today with calls for entry, and is scheduled to take place at the end of this month in Kenya’s capital Nairobi, at the Havilah Cornerstone Ranch. Due to COVID precautions and continued restrictions, some key activities will be conducted online and remotely.
This year’s pageant, taking place under new management, is set to bring in a colorful showcasing of fashion and beauty through a diverse participation of various contestants. The call for entry for contestants has been issued and the deadline for application is 16th October 2021. The winner will be expected to be able to compete internationally with over 90 beautiful young women from all over the world in the global Miss Universe pageant slated for December in Israel.
Miss Universe Kenya is the national preliminary to Miss Universe, whereby selected judges choose a winner to represent the country at the global Miss Universe pageant, Kenya has an excellent track record in the prestigious global pageant in the person of Miss Universe Kenya 2017, Ms Mary Esther Were. She became the first Kenyan to secure a place among the top six finalists of the international finals of Miss Universe. Esther Were was described as a blend of beauty and brains and widely celebrated for representing Black African women spectacularly on the global stage.
In 2019, Ms Stacey Michuki later represented the country at the 68th Anniversary of the Global Miss Universe pageant held in Atlanta Georgia-United States. Last year there was no Kenyan contestant at the 2020 edition that is managed by the WME / IMG talent agency in New York; this was due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
The new management running this year’s Miss Universe Kenya pageant 2021 is Mwanzo Media Limited that runs various outfits among them Mwanzo TV which is a leading news outlet in East Africa. Through its various platforms, the online TV station is expected to give a special coverage of the upcoming Miss Universe Kenya pageant.
This year’s Miss Universe Kenya is expected to showcase Kenya’s diverse dernier cri, basically the latest in fashion and beauty, which will give prominence to the various cultures of the various communities of the country.
Some of key requirements for applicants of the Miss Universe Kenya pageant include:
– Applicant should be between 18 years to 27 years old during application
– Must be a citizen of Kenya (can have dual citizenship)
– Should not have kids (NOTE: Never had kids)
– Not married – (NOTE: Never married)
– Should hold a passport
– Should be able to speak and understand English well
– Applicant can either be studying or working

The crowned MUKe2021 will be expected to later champion Kenya’s Heritage and brands regionally in line with the global theme of inspiring regions and the diverse communities within; the winner will also represent the country at the global Miss Universe 2021 pageant which will be celebrating its 70th Anniversary at the time in an event slated for December this year in the city of Eilat, Israel. Miss Universe 2020 was the 69th global Miss Universe pageant, held on May 16, 2021 in the United States. Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa crowned her successor Andrea Meza of Mexico at the end of the event, that attracted contestants from 74 countries and territories, featuring the smallest field of Miss Universe contestants since 2003. This is, to date, the only time the pageant was broadcast on FYI cable channel, after being temporarily moved out from its previous broadcaster Fox TV due to COVID-19 pandemic COVID-19 pandemic-related uncertainties to the edition.
