Mumias East MP Peter Salasya found himself in a heated exchange in Parliament on Tuesday after being accused of livestreaming Parliament proceedings on his phone, violating parliamentary rules.

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah raised the issue, alleging that Salasya had recorded himself during the session while making inappropriate remarks. Ichung’wah called for the MP to delete the footage and issue an apology.

“I saw Salasya livestreaming from the back seat while making unpalatable comments. The House already provides official live coverage, and we cannot allow such behavior,” Ichung’wah stated.

Speaker Moses Wetang’ula confronted Salasya about the claims, but the MP denied any wrongdoing, arguing that he does not personally manage his social media accounts. The Speaker, unconvinced, warned that Parliament had the authority to access his phone records for verification.

“Be honorable, young man. If not, this matter can be forwarded to the Powers and Privileges Committee,” Wetang’ula cautioned.

Despite the warnings, Salasya appeared dismissive, stating that he needed time to check the allegations against him. The Speaker later directed the Clerk to retrieve the MP’s phone for further review.

The incident unfolded during a tense parliamentary debate regarding the rightful Majority and Minority sides following a recent High Court ruling. Even amid the controversy, Salasya continued livestreaming on Instagram, joking about the ongoing discussions.
