NACADA Warns Social Media Influencers Against Promoting Alcohol and Drug Use

The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has issued a strong warning to social media and digital influencers against promoting alcohol and drug use. In a statement, NACADA noted with concern the growing trend of influencers sharing content that normalizes or glorifies substance use, particularly to young audiences.

NACADA urged influencers to be responsible with their content, reminding them of their role in shaping behavior, especially among the youth. The authority emphasized that promoting drugs or alcohol through any media platform not only undermines public health efforts but is also illegal under the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act, 2010 and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Control Act, 1994.

NACADA called on influencers to use their platforms as forces for positive change, helping to create a drug-free future for Kenya. The organization also advised parents to closely monitor the content their children consume online, especially on social media.
