Nairobi, Kenya – The Nairobi health union caucus has given the Nairobi City County Government a 7-day ultimatum to address grievances, failing which healthcare services in the county will grind to a halt. The union, in a press statement, cited persistent neglect of health workers’ welfare, including unpaid salaries and poor working conditions, as the reason for the drastic measure.

According to caucus, despite numerous meetings and signed agreements over the past two years, the employer has ignored the plight of healthcare workers, destabilizing the health sector. “Our strike will officially begin on Friday, 16th January 2026, at 00:01 am, should the employer fail to meet the demands within the notice period,” the union warned.
The Nairobi health workers are demanding better working conditions, payment of outstanding salaries, and resolution of staff management issues.
They also fault the county government of Nairobi City for non implementation of signed return to work agreement, unfair and delayed promotion and redisignation of all deserving officers of 2023/2024, ignoring PSC-approved scheme of service and career framework.
The union also demand the county to confirm all deserving officers into permanent and pensionable terms as well as immediately replacing staff who have either resigned, died or retired.
Also, they want full implementation of SRC 2024 salary increment agreement and conclusion and adoption of all pending Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs)
Nairobi health workers caucus is an umbrella of several unions such Kenya Union of Nutritionists and Dietitians (KUNAD), Kenya National Union of Medical Laboratory Officers (KNUMLO), Kenya National Union of Nurses & Midwives (KNUNM), Kenya Union of Clinical Officers and Kenya National Union of Pharmaceutical technologists.
