No evidence of treason against Tundu Lissu nearly 3 months since he was arrested

Tanzania DPP has been urged to make an immediate decision in the case facing Chadema chairman Tundu Lissu.

During the hearing proceedings of the case at Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court, it was stated that there is a need for urgent proof to be provided to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to charge Lissu, or if not, to release him.

The government informed the court that the case file has been read and a legal ruling has been issued, and is now ready for a ruling, and they are asking for another date for the verdict by the Director of Public Prosecutions DPP to be issued in Court

During the trial, Tundu Lissu made two applications.

”Mr. Judge, if the prosecution has sufficient evidence, then let them table the necessary information to the High Court so that this case can be transferred there, or if they do not have enough evidence, let the DPP dismiss the charges against the accused,” Lissu said.

It’s now nearly three months since Lissu was arrested and the DPP is yet to table evidence of treason against the accused person.

”This is the first time in the country’s history that we have seen a treason case in Tanzania committed by one person. The person planned treason alone, and on the same day, detectives found it online.  But 83 days later, sleuths have  not managed to table evidence before the Court” Wondered Lissu

The case has been postponed to July 15, 2025
