Polepole Fault CCM for hand-picking President Samia as party’s presidential flagbearer

Former Tanzanian Ambassador to Cuba, Humphrey Polepole, has today, 18th July 2025, broken his silence, days after tendering his resignation.

Addressing the nation through his social media platforms, Mr. Polepole stated that he disagreed with the CCM’s decision to endorse President Samia Suluhu’s candidature for the upcoming general elections. Zanzibar President Hussein Mwinyi was also given a direct ticket by CCM to vie for president.

He said CCM hand-picked President Samia to fly its presidential flag without following due party process.

“And here I will say to you, those who chair the ethics committees know… This is a little tricky.. You know, sometimes you have to break to build. Now, this process of picking a presidential candidate was actually wrong’’ he said

‘’I have spoken to my brother at the party, he too acknowledged there was a big blunder. But now, how do we get out? He asked, I told him, let’s acknowledge the problem first, then we find a solution. Let’s go and fix it and give our party its glory.’’

Polepole has been a CCM cadre since 2000 and has been involved in many party activities within and abroad.

The firebrand politician has been Tanzania’s ambassador to Cuba since 2023 before dramatically tendering his resignation, citing increased cases of abduction and enforced disappearance in his country.

Previously, he served as Tanzania’s ambassador to Malawi from 2022 to 2023.
