The government of Kenya has said it intends to tap into a vast pool of talented youth in various fields of skills. This is according to the Cabinet Secretary for Youths Affairs, Creative Economy Sports Dr. Ababu Namwamba, who revealed that he’s impressed by the level of talent horned through the academy that youth exhibited and promised to tap it in the upcoming world beauty pungent auditions slated for July this year thus helping to commercialize their crafts.
CS Namwamba was Speaking during the 5th graduation of the International Youth Fellowship (IYF) free weekend academy in Nairobi where he noted that the government’s recognition of qualification through prior learning will go a long way to ensure young people are skilled and well-equipped to help in the creative economy and divert them from negative vises.
“I want to congratulate you and encourage you and assure you as your cabinet secretary that I believe in the youth of Kenya and I have a very strong faith in the transformational impact that IYF is doing to our youth and I have seen good programs exhibited here which must be supported to commercialization levels. Don’t let anybody undermine the power in you and I will walk you to where you are supposed to be“said Namwamba.
IYF Kenya Chairman Revered Yohan Kim revealed there are 27 courses they have discussed together with directors in the next phase.
‘’We are trying to expand more courses, not only now hosting the weekend academy here, starting from this fifth season we have also expanded this weekend academy across Kenya in 20 branches as wel” he Said
IYF Weekend Academy has been instrumental in providing skills to disadvantaged youths a majority being form 4 leavers who in one way or the other, could not have a chance to further their education due to financial constraints. The initiative which has adopted a three-month cohort structure, not only equips students with practical skills but also empowers them to contribute positively to their communities and the broader economy.
The International Youth Fellowship (IYF) is proud to announce the graduation ceremony of over 3,000 students from its free academy, an event that signifies a major step forward in addressing the educational needs of individuals who face financial barriers to higher education.
This milestone aligns with the recent approval of the Recognition of Prior Learning Policy by the Kenyan government, on inclusive education which acknowledges and validates the skills and knowledge acquired outside formal education systems.
