President Samia Suluhu Hassan has officially revoked the appointment of Humphrey Polepole as Tanzania’s Ambassador to Cuba and removed his ambassadorial status. The decision, made under the powers granted to the President by the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania, was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation.
According to a statement from the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Dr. Samwel Shelukindo, and an official letter from the Chief Secretary, Ambassador Dr. Moses Kusiluka, President Samia took this action for the public good. In line with the Public Service Act, the President also terminated Polepole’s employment in public service.
The decision was effective from July 16, 2025. This move follows recent developments regarding Polepole, who had previously resigned from his diplomatic position earlier this month, citing human rights violations under the current government.
