Kenya’s golfing landscape was set ablaze as the inaugural PGK Equator Tour came to a thrilling close at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club. The event marked a watershed moment in the country’s professional golf, signaling the dawn of a new era packed with promise, talent, and national pride.

Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi hailed the tour’s success, saying, “The grand finale is more than closing a successful tournament; it is a watershed moment where we launch a new era for Kenya’s pro golf.”

Mwangi praised the tour’s journey across Kenya, showcasing the country’s rich golfing heritage and promoting inclusivity, beneficial partnerships, and sporting excellence. “The PGK Equator Tour has taken us on one of the greatest adventures across Kenya’s landscape,” he said.

The Professional Golfers of Kenya were lauded for their innovative approach to nurturing world-class golfers. “Your innovative approach focuses on mentorship, fitness, simulator training, mental health support – it speaks to the future of sports not just in Kenya but globally,” Mwangi noted.

The government pledged continued support, citing plans to review the Sports Act and Policy to encourage private sector involvement. Mwangi challenged golfers to spread their wings, saying, “You have the skills and talent to go head-to-head with international elite golfers. You can beat the best in the game because you have it in you.”

Adding to the excitement, 15 talented players have qualified for the prestigious 2026 Magical Kenya Open, set to further elevate Kenya’s golfing profile on the global stage.

With golf earmarked for inclusion in school curricula, Mwangi said, “We share in your dreams; we appreciate your talent and hard work. The golfing future in Kenya remains very promising.”
