Regional leaders arrive in Nairobi as Kenya launches Raila’s AUC campaign

Several regional leaders have arrived for the launch of Kenya’s campaign to have Raila Odinga as the next Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC).

The event is being spearheaded by President William Ruto at State House.
At least five Heads of State from the East African Community (EAC) are expected to attend, including South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir, Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu, Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and Burundi’s Prime Minister Gervais Ndirakobuca.
Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo is also in attendance.
This launch marks the beginning of Raila Odinga’s campaign to replace the outgoing AUC Chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat of Chad.
The election for the AUC is set to take place in early 2025.
