Busia Senator and activist Okiya Omtatah has called for the immediate suspension of the Social Health Authority (SHA), following a damning report by Auditor General Nancy Gathungu.

This follows the latest report from Auditor General Nancy Gathungu that revealed that SHA is a Ksh104 billion corruption scheme that the government neither owns nor controls, jeopardizing the billions Kenyans contribute to healthcare.
The report highlights that the government neither owns nor controls SHA, raising serious concerns about the safety of the billions of shillings contributed by Kenyans for healthcare services.
Following AG’s report, Omtatah has issued three demands: the immediate suspension of SHA, a comprehensive overhaul of its framework, and accountability for those responsible for the alleged grand theft.
Omtatah emphasized that these are not mere teething problems but systemic failures that undermine public confidence and threaten the future of Universal Health Coverage in Kenya.
“These are not mere teething problems; they are systemic failures that undermine public confidence and threaten the future of Universal Health Coverage in Kenya,”he said.
He warned that continuing with the current scheme would cause irreparable harm and betray the trust of millions who deserve a transparent, accountable, and functional healthcare system
“Continuing with this broken scheme will cause irreparable harm, betraying the trust of millions who deserve a transparent, accountable, and functional healthcare system, not a corruption cartel disguised as progress,” he said.
