The Ministry pointed out that Kilimanjaro and Njombe regions have been particularly affected by cholera cases, underscoring the need for heightened vigilance.

Officials noted that surveillance data shows a seasonal rise in respiratory infections between November and April, both in Tanzania and globally. Severe influenza and COVID‑19 are spread through droplets from infected individuals when coughing, sneezing, or speaking, and can also be contracted by touching contaminated surfaces. Common symptoms include high fever, cough, headache, body aches, sore throat, and fatigue.

The Ministry urged citizens to take preventive measures such as covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, frequent handwashing with soap and running water or using sanitizers, avoiding unnecessary crowding, and wearing masks when symptomatic or in crowded areas.

Authorities also emphasized the importance of maintaining personal and environmental hygiene, seeking medical care promptly when symptoms appear, and avoiding self‑medication or misuse of antibiotics.

In addition, the Ministry warned of rising risks of dengue fever during the rainy season, which increases mosquito breeding.

Dengue is transmitted by the Aedes mosquito, recognizable by its black and white markings, and bites during the day. Symptoms include high fever, joint and body pain, eye discomfort, and fatigue, often resembling malaria. Communities are urged to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and maintain clean surroundings.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring outbreaks and providing timely updates, calling on the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with health authorities to curb the spread of these diseases nationwide.
