The Government To Execute Police Salary Surges in Three Phases

The government is scheduled to implement the 40 percent salary increment for police officers as part of a broader reform effort.

The Ministry of Interior issued the clarification after some officers disputed the claim sharing their pay slips online.

“We regret the error,” the ministry stated. The salary increment are rolled out in three phases.

In the First Phase, which the Ministry of Interior made the clarification after indicated a lumpsum increament effective July this year, 2024, constables received a 20% salary increase. In the Second Phase which will be setting off in September 2024, officers from the Kenya Prisons Service (KPS) and National Youth Service (NYS) will also receive increased pay.

In the Third Phase which is the final phase, the Ministry will continue to adjust salaries for higher-ranking officers, with the percentage increase decreasing as the rank increases.

These reforms are part of recommendations by a taskforce led by retired Chief Justice David Maraga, aiming to improve leadership, accountability, and operational preparedness within the security services.
