Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has recommended the withdrawal of the high-profile Sh1.1 billion Finland and Canada Education Programme Scandal case against Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago and two county officials.

The DCI suggests that the case be replaced by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) against Mandago and seven others.

In their defence, the DCI said they were unable to trace the money, but the EACC had succeeded. DCI Deputy Director of Investigations Paul Wachira wrote to Ingonga on September 19, indicating their intent to withdraw the charges against Mandago, Meshack Rono, Joseph Kipkemboi Maritim, and Joshua Lelei.

Leading the case on Wednesday, Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ndege failed to mention the withdrawal of the charges against Mr Mandago, alongside county officials Meshack Rono and Joshua Lelei.

“The case will proceed from the week commencing on December 2, the prosecution should provide witnesses scheduled to testify,” directed Ndege.

Senator Jackson Mandago and seven others were expected to face fresh charges in connection with the Sh1.1 billion Finland education saga. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga approved the charges proposed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), which has been investigating the scholarship program founded by the Uasin Gishu County government during Mandago’s tenure.
