Kenya and Malawi sign eight treaties

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera at State House-Nairobi

Kenya and Malawi have today signed eight treaties that are expected to boost bilateral relations between the two nations. During a joint press briefing at State House-Nairobi, President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Malawian counterpart Lazarus Chakwera announced that they had signed instruments of cooperation on Health, Tourism, Diplomatic Training, Political and Diplomatic Consultations, Defence, Cooperatives, Trade, and Fisheries.

President Chakwera and First Lady Monica Chakwera were received at State House by Mr Kenyatta earlier Thursday. The ornate military reception ceremony for the Malawi Head of State, who is in the country on a three-day state visit, included a guard of honour mounted by a detachment of the Kenya Army and a 21-gun salute that could be heard in the environs.

President Chakwera arrived in the country on Tuesday afternoon, and was the Chief Guest at Kenya’s Mashujaa Day celebrations held Wednesday in the country’s Kirinyaga County.

The two Heads of State are said to have proceeded for a private talk before leading their respective delegations in a bilateral meeting.
