Kenyan World and Olympic 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon arguably produced the stand-out performance of an amazing night of track and field in balmy conditions in front of a big crowd.

She clocked in the second fastest ever time over the distance as she won in 3:50.37 to miss Ethiopian Genzebe Dibaba‘s world record by three tenths of a second (0.3secs.) set in 2015, also in Monaco. Kipyegon set a new Personal Best, a National Record as well as set the second fastest time in history. 

“I have been chasing the time for quite some time but I am happy with the personal best. It seems I did not give it all but I tried hard. I knew this was the best place to get the world record but I am so disappointed I lost it in the last meters. I hope for the best next time. We will see when. I was definitely ready for it today. I am heading home now and want to get a good Diamond League final in Zurich” said Kipyegon, who was left to bolt home alone after both pacesetters had done their jobs.

Kipyegon, a 28-year-old mom, owns two Olympic 1500m gold medals and two world 1500m titles.
