Kenya is expected to receive 50,000 doses of the Mpox vaccine from the World Health Organization (WHO) in partnership with the US government.

Kenya is one of five African countries targeted to receive the vaccine as a way to prevent the spread of the disease.

Other countries to receive the vaccine are the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Burundi, Rwanda and Uganda.

This follows the WHO’s decision to declare Mpox a global public health emergency.

Previously, a similar measure was announced by the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Mpox has been reported in four African countries since July this year: Kenya, Burundi, DRC, and Rwanda.

Apart from Africa, Sweden, and Pakistan also recorded the first cases of the disease, with Africa reporting 14,000 cases and causing 456 deaths in 15 countries.

Mpox is a disease that transmits from animals to humans, as well as from person to person by wearing a patient’s clothing, eating utensils, and also through sexual intercourse.
