Kenya and the United States have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance labour standards and worker welfare.

Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has signed an agreement today, Monday morning, with an aim of promoting social dialogue, enforce labour laws, and ensure compliance with international labour standards.

“Our goal with this agreement is to make occupational health and safety a top priority, creating a safer, healthier environment for all Kenyan workers,” Mutua said.

Deputy Undersecretary for the Bureau of International Labor Affairs, Thea Mei Lee, emphasized the crucial role of workers’ rights in fostering a healthy democracy.

The MoU focuses on addressing issues such as forced labour, workplace grievance handling, and improving worker organizations’ engagement with employers and the government

Thea Mei Lee acknowledged Kenya’s proactive commitment to labor regulations, underlining how fair practices uphold democratic values. Both governments agreed to defend international labor rights and assist each other’s efforts to achieve equal and sustainable labor standards.
