Kenya’s legendary artist behind the hit song “Rafiki Pesa,” Shari Martin, passes away on August 2, 2024, at the age of 54.
Shari Martin was receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital for pneumonia.
His fellow musician, Douglas Jiveti, announced his death today, Tuesday, August 6, on his social media account.
“Pioneer Gospel musician Shari Martin has sadly passed on. Very gifted musician: Creative composer, strong lyrics, wonderful voice. May God rest his soul in eternal peace,” he said.
The news was also confirmed by Martin’s close female friend and fellow artist, identified by one name, Pauline, who confirmed that Shari fell ill on July 27, 2024, and was rushed to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with pneumonia.
“Martin was recovering well and was supposed to be discharged. But he developed breathing difficulties. Unfortunately, he did not make it and passed away on August 2, 2024. We later learned that he had been battling the condition for a while and had not sought any medical attention until it became severe,” said Pauline.
