Junta-led countries Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso officially left West Africa’s main political and trade group ECOWAS on Wednesday after more than a year of diplomatic tensions.
Burkina Faso’s new legislative assembly opened on Friday with a call for self-sacrifice by the 71 members appointed by the junta that seized power a month ago
“Malengo yetu si mengine isipokuwa upatanisho wa eneo linalokaliwa na makundi haya ya magaidi. Uwepo wa Burkina uko hatarini,” Traore alisema
Traore, at the head of a core of disgruntled junior officers, ousted Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, who had seized power just in January.
Traore has been appointed as “Head of State, Supreme Head of the Armed Forces”, according to the official statement by spokesman Captain Kiswendsida Farouk Azaria Sorgho
